The Gay Super Bowl...

It's the biggest day of the year for my people! No, not Rosh Hashanah, my other people. No, not Canada Day, my other people... it's (drumroll please) the Gay Super Bowl, The Academy Awards!

It's the day we eat obscenely over-indulgent amounts of popcorn and watch four hours plus of semi-entertaining television... ok, ok, that could be any Sunday.

With Steve Martin and Alex Baldwin hosting, this year has potential to be funny as hell.

Who's gonna win? I haven't seen The Hurt Locker, and thought Avatar was stunningly beautiful though plot is basically Pocahontas in space. I loved Up in the Air, it would get my vote. Also thought Up was terrific. Also I haven't seen Precious, which intrigues me.

For actor, Jeff Bridges seems to be a lock, and I haven't seen the movie so no opinion there. Although Colin Firth may sneak in there. I think Meryl Streep should get it for Julie and Julia, a movie I loved and where I totally forgot I was watching Meryl act --- she becomes Julia Child. Although Sandra Bullock may sneak in there.

For supporting roles, Mo'Nique and that Inglorious Basterds dude both seem like locks to win.

For director I hope Kathryn Bigelow gets it --- she would be the first woman to win, which is astonishing, and it is about damn time.

I am looking forward to Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. And the clothes. And some surprises. And some drunk or stoned or overly nervous starving starlet slipping up and going off script and giving us an unforgettable moment, good or bad...

Now where's that effing popcorn?

Not all of 'your people' will be watching the Oscars; The Amazing Race is on.

Uh-huh.... I don't get that, but fair enough, the Oscars cannot be about The Sound of Music again and again every year! And Amazing Race is a great show...

Do you remember the bad animated movie called "Ferngully"? Avatar is the exact Ferngully (meets Pocahontas) plot. Odd. I am totally looking forward to the Superbowl- especially the pre-game red carpet show!
Agree on Best Director- plus: beating your ex-husband in the same category? priceless. She should be on the Wheaties box if she pulls that shit off.

xo!

I think it is going to be a good one! Sadly I will have to find it tomorrow online somewhere! Have a wonderful super bowl!

I'm not your people in any sense of the word but I love the Oscars too.. love the 'real' superbowl too..

Sadly I do not know of the director you speak but after seeing Avatar I hope it is snubbed, beautiful yes but the story numbed my mind. As marymac said Ferngully for sure...saw that 100 years ago with my kids.

I think the host combo will be great..

Yes I do vaguely remember Ferngully, and had not made that connection - very interesting!

I saw Avatar in 3D Imax and visually was stunning and totally worth seeing; so shouldn't it be up for best animated film?

And yes I hope Bigelow wins for The Hurt Locker, which I plan to rent this week - time for a woman win, and think is totally fun if she beats her ex-husband --- now that is an Oscar story!!!

Oh, it is SUNDAY today?! I thought today was MONDAY and that it was on last night and I missed it? (um, life with kids... my memory and specifically day recollection is poor...)

I will catch a bit of it, but I will admit that I never have watched a whole one. Also, I am way behind on my movie viewing as cartoons and Treehouse has now taken over my life...
