Unbloggable...

alfred lives here will celebrate is first birthday in two weeks... woo hoo, where's that damn cake?

So as someone who is rarely short of an opinion, there are tons of things for me to spout off about. And I have --- about news, books, music, our big gay wedding, Hitler building our new house, things that annoy the crap out of me, idiots, homophobes, bad drivers, good movies, the world's cutest dog, and more.

As I have worked through this first year journey, there are some things that by choice or by chance have not made it in to the blog. So in a spirit of hey, what the fuck, here are seven of them:

1- I ate vegemite and lived to tell the tale: Yep, I tried it, when our friend Karen was here from Australia for our wedding, and was told that this is a love it or hate it kind of thing. Karen loves it, and yes carries it with her around the world. My husband hates it. First impression? Smells like tar. Taste impression? Meh. Take it or leave it. I wish I had loved or hated it, but frankly just didn't care.

2- Pat Benatar's autobiography: I was soooo eager to read this. I love Pat Benatar! Love her! But although book was interesting, it didn't wow me. A good primer on sexism in the music industry, I didn't feel I got to know the real Benatar. And the book pales beside Belinda Carlisle's dishier Lips Unsealed.

3- My family: I guess it's true what they say, all families are dysfunctional. Some bloggers are so great with writing and sharing about their families' twists and turns. I avoid dealing with them, in writing and yes sometimes in life. My learning over the past year is that weddings bring out the best and worst in people, maybe more a same-sex wedding where there is less ritual and less protocol. And unfortunately more homophobia. The upside is you also see who is amazing and who loves you.

4- Seeing Shirley MacLaine live: In June we flew to Seattle to see the Oscar winner give a talk about life the universe and everything. K is a huge fan and well read on her, I am open minded (sort of). The outcome? She is a smart, sassy, fantastic speaker. And I think we expected more, to be surprised or challenged, whereas the speech was more a summary of her beliefs. Interesting, not a mind-whack.

5- Local, provincial, and national Canadian politics: Yes, these things are important, impact me and many of you, and most of the players involved are self-interested buffoons. And I have started some posts on them, and quickly drop them like Sarah Palin would drop a coherent thought. Why? Because this blog is my escape from such stuff.

6- Sex and the City 2 - I luuuv the series, was ok with the first movie, and then was really disappointed with part deux. Besides the whole rich people cavorting in a recession misfire, the characters have lost any semblance to reality, and while the clothes were great and there were a few laughs, the movie was too long and too frivolous. Bring on part three and redeem yourselves!

7- My obsessive love of The Golden Girls: They rock. Enough said!

as far as family goes, better know where they stand, so you don't make a fool of yourself tending to the worst of them. favor those who appreciate you.

as for politics, you're right, a personal blog is the way to either engage or dismiss such issues. that's why i keep that stuff mainly on another blog rather than the main one. it sets the derisive or outraged tone i keep going over there about various "sensitive" issues. was once called a moron for somethin i said.

sex and the city? huge fan but they may have killed their chances at a 3rd movie because of the 2nd one. the whole abu dhabi trip was pointless in their storylines and i wish they would have remained in NYC and dealt with their issues. that would have been more in the spirit of the original series and a shorter film, possibly.

as for vegemite, i enjoy eiting vegan, for a meal or for a period of time in my life, but vegemite? as SAMANTHA once said: "painful and unnecessary!!" i personally have to draw the line somewhere. there are other ways to enjoy the vegan lifestyle.

as for yourself, my dear: many happy blogdays in your future.keep it coming!! (no puns intended..)
:)~

Yes yes yes Golden Girls! Seems like we started blogging at pretty much the same time. My first post on Searching was August 21, 2009 :)

Oh yes, totally Golden Girls freak. Love them all! And like that is on the air constantly now. Am discovering Maude for the first time. Yep, all new to me. Also a great show!

And my first blog post was on Aug 17, 2009, so yes Penny we started the same week. Kinda cool!

The Samantha quote applied to vegemite is perfect! It really did smell like a freshly tarred driveway...

As someone who has recently had their first blog birthday I have some tips. Pre-order the cake.

# There must be cake. Don't be like me and realise at about 11pm after I did my birthday post that I forgot cake (I believe this is a sign of the impending apocalypse) and made a frantic and sad packet cake.

# There must be margaritas. If there are no margaritas it's simply not a party.

Brahm you are one of my favourites for many reasons. But primarily because you bring a smile to my face with your words, and I always get a little surge of joy when I see you come up in my blog roll. I can even get over your 'meh reaction to Vegemite, which is of course Australian soul food. :)

Happy Almost Birthday!!!!

Goodness me, you sound like my long-lost twin! The topics that you cover are so similar to mine. You might just become my muse. Glad I stumbled across your blog a few days ago.

Keep on keepin' on. BTW, Miss Pat was the first concert I ever went to. She ROCKED it!

And the Golden Girls...I could answer ANY trivia question you throw at me about that show!

Almost a whole year already?! I forgot to eat cake on my anniversary so I vote you eat twice as much for me. :)

Never tried vegemite, but we have Marmite here in the UK. It's weird.

Pat Benetar *swoon*

Sex and the City part 2 - you know most people have hated it! I have yet to see it.

Also, from your previous post: I SO LOVE Drew Barrymore! I kinda wanna marry her, but my boyfriend said no. Pfft. He's totally holding me back.

Brahm, I started my blog the same summer you did. I've enjoyed stopping by often to sample the infinite mix of pop, comedy, news, and commentary you assemble here. Happy B-day to your blog.

Hello Brahm and congrats one 1 year. So many wonderful things have happened for you in that time...that said:
1. Vegemite...a rite of passing...suck it up.
2. Pat Benatar...I like her too
3. Famlies...you can't live with them...you can't kill them...oh well.
4. Shirley MacLaine...I go way back farther than you do and remember her on Ed Sullivan, and frankly her brother Warren Beatty is no slouch either.
5. As a Canadian Bretheren (displaced) I try to keep up on politics...but at times root canal work seems less painful.
6. Don't know much about Sex in the City, but I trust your review.
7. Whoever doesn't love the Golden Girls knows nothing of great comedy...and should be dipped in salty cheese Fondu and fed to monkeys...I'm just saying.

My one-year blog anni is tomorrow. Do stop by. And I love the Golden Girls, too. The man who directed most of them is a neighbor of mine.
