Out actress Portia de Rossi was in talks to appear on the next season of the show, and has now decided not to.
So with Portia bowing out, ABC has decided not to go forward with a same-sex couple, according to http://www.popeater.com/. Really, ABC, there wasn't another gay or straight actor or actress who wanted to do this? Its not sex, folks, it's dancing. Anyone can dance with anyone.
With all the focus on anti-gay bullying, and gay teen suicides, and the controversy of DADT, wouldn't this be a terrific step forward and a great conversation starter? Is ABC afraid of controversy? Hell, they put Bristol Palin on the show!

Honestly, I am not a big fan of the show...nothing against the format, audience or dancing, I just don't watch a lot of television. I do however agree that this show with its large following could make a positive social step forward...but network TV folks are wussies, and would rather run headlines on the bashing and anti-gay behavior, than take a stand to prevent them.
Thanks for the post!
I am on occasional watcher, depends who is on. Just read that Lindsay Lohan is in talks to appear. That will not go well...
I REALLY REALLY hope they continue to find someone. This would be so awesome and forward of them. LOVE THIS IDEA!
I totally agree with you! It's not as if the majority of people who watch DWTS haven't come across a gay person!
Like the whole DADT debacle, it's going to take more time for the government in the U.S. and huge corporations to take a gamble/chance and not be worried about losing votes/money!!!! I guess being GAY can be quite the commodity!!!!!

@ Jim and @TC --- totally agree. Wouldn't a same-sex couple bring their glitter and sequins to a whole new audience? Plus they seem to court controversy, so even the downside would have an upside.
Portia and Ellen and a tango! Damn! How could you get much hotter than that! I hope they do consider doing this. It would be a giant step forward.
You know who would have been great and perfect is Neil Patrick Harris. I love him.
I'd much rather see hotty Portia, than Bristol. I mean, eww.
@ Jayne - Oh I agree Neil Patrick Harris would be great. Probably too A-list or B-list right now. He was great on Glee last season.
@ Aunt Juicebos - so agree!
I couldn't agree more... unfortunately, this country is extremely behind in the times so I'm not terribly surprised to see that they're not pushing for a same-sex dancing couple. I think it would add such a fun and unique element and given the state of what's going on in the world lately, it would be an incredible step forward for acceptance and tolerance. I hope the day comes in the very near future.
At least we don't have to look at Bristol any longer :p
