Hey Faggot... It Gets Better Canada!

Just posted yesterday, here is the Canadian partner to Dan Savage's It Gets Better video campaign for gay youth.

I love this video! Featuring prominent Canadians like Rick Mercer, Mark Tewksbury, Peter Fallico, David Dixon, and a whole bunch more, this is smart and moving. Check it out!

Aaawwww... I want to be gay now. Only without the hatred parts. Which are really sucky horrible parts. But I admire people standing strong behind the entire coming out process. And I love parents who embrace their children, no matter how old they are, when they come clean about it.

Thanks for sharing this empowering video.

I know that there is much more progress to be made and bad things are still happening but I was inspired (and was taught a lot) when my daughter came home from her 9th grade dance and showed me the pictures. She was so excited that everyone looked so beautiful and her face beamed when she showed me a picture of her gay friend with her date. She said, "Mom, they danced together and they looked so happy." I checked out her friend's facebook page and it was covered with comments from friends about how gorgeous they were as a couple. I will admit, the conversation made me uncomfortable as well as proud and happy. I was proud of my daughter for how she wholly accepted their relationship and happy that so many people prized them. I was happy that the couple went together and danced together and their friends (as well as the chaperones) were so accepting. When I thought about it later, I realized that it wasn't that my daughter's gay friends went to the dance that made me uncomfortable. It was because as a mom, it was difficult for me to think of sexuality of any kind in 9th graders. After all, my daughter has been told that sex is off limits until the age of 30! =) I know that there is much progress to be made and it is truly horrible that the bullying exists. I am happy, however, that my daughter and her group of friends are so openly accepting and encouraging to the point were my daughter really struggled when the girls broke up. I told my daughter that I am proud of her for that and I expect that she openly share her feelings about this when people say mean things about people because of sexual orientation.

Brilliant. Ugh... I remember the first time someone (a coworker) made comments, the first time someone (another coworker) called me a fag (dumbass... I'm a dyke.) But yeah. Definitely getting better and easier.

@ Brittany - no, didn't see The View, did see some clips of the interview and it looks like Ricky did great.

@ Lauren --- been there also, and it definitely does get better. Waaay better. I hope lots of kids see this video.

@ Nicki --- I agree, is great to see people open and loving, and I am no kids expert and do think that is young to even think about such things. Good perspective though!

@ Sumsum --- Welcome!

What? Rick Mercer gets upgraded to Business Class because he is gay and the guy at the Air Canada counter is gay? Sheesh ... and I fly how many trips a year to get us free upgrades to Business Class? Are you sure it's not because you are famous? hahaha

Kevin - I get upgraded sometimes, not sure why? I guess Rick Mercer travels more than you! So clearly you should travel more (ha ha ha)...
