Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica... and the gay guy...

What kind of guy would turn down Veronica? Well, besides her decades-old teenage love, wimpy slutty Archie? That would be the new guy on the comic block, Kevin Keller, the first out gay character in Riverdale.

How totally awesome is that?

Kevin will be introduced this fall, in a Veronica comic book (hey, when did she get her own series). He is the new handsome guy who defeats Jughead in a burger eating contest, which sets Veronica in hot pursuit. Interesting turn-on, Miss Veronica. And maybe too much information.

So yes, boys and girls, it's true, we are everywhere, including in your local comic shop.

I even like how this was done - the company very proudly announced it on their website @ http://www.archiecomics.com/, and then it was covered everywhere - I saw it on CNN this morning. Amazing!

You can tell he's gay by that fabulous hair and sculpted eyebrows! And look at that strong jawline. Archie, you schlub -- you look terrible (and so old-fashioned) beside Kevin!

I grew up with these comics. Haven't seen them in years. Well, good for them. It's about freakin' time.

I am quite happy about this, but, truth be told, I didn't know they were still in publication! I used to get them all the time when I was much younger.

I'm Big Kev Excited! (Okay that probably doesn't make much sense in Canada but here in Aus people would be pissing themselves with laughter at my comic genius).

Go Archie Comics !

Yup, Kevin is one cute dude. I couldn't be happier that Archie Comics is this progressive. About forty years ago, I was a HUGE Archie comic books fan. I had stacks of the things. They were a major influence in my life. I was one lonely and friendless little kid, and my Archie comics kept me company when there were few others.

Imagine how seeing a gay dude in my favorite comics might have positively influenced me, how he would have been a hero, how I would have looked up to him and wanted to be him. Imagine how validated I might have felt, how I would have considered myself included rather than excluded.

What an enormous opportunity Archie Comics has to create a positive image for young gay kids coming up. I wish I'd been as fortunate back in the day.

YAY Archie! And let's hope that the ongoing issue of women wanting the unavailable is handled well, so young girls grow up with realistic expectations, like "You won't change him!"

We saw that online on Yahoo or something I think the other day. Our first question was..."when did Veronica get her own comic book?" I hope it isn't just a stunt to get publicity and that they will use the opportunity to educate.

Shows you what I know, I always thought Archie was gay.

Archie gay? Geez I hope not.. who wants him?

I have seen some stuff online where some conservatives are attacking this, saying how wrong it was, and that comics should be a 'safe haven' from such things as this... weird how some people thing out-of-date and 12th-century is safe

I seen this all over the news channels! Very cool, I read Archie comics as kid, I still have them all and I remember reading them, imagining how cool it would be to have a gay guy in the comic going to the school! Now it's come true! It will be interesting to see what they do with this character!!
