Reader question: "I had a great date, but the guy said he doesn't want kids. Should I tell him that's unacceptable?"
Cosmo answer: "Um -no. Just move on. But do you really want to ignore potential due to an offhand comment?"
WTF?
To the loser reader --- UNACCEPTABLE? Interesting choice of words. Maybe something like "hey, we don't want the same things out of life, should I bring it up this early, or simply accept that he's not the one for me?" But 'unacceptable', your highness?
To the losers at Cosmo --- "just move on" and "an offhand comment"? So the official expert Cosmopolitan Magazine advice is, uh, don't talk about it and dump the guy with no communication, or dismiss this man's life choice as 'an offhand comment' because his stance disagrees with yours." Experts my ass.
Now granted while I am not the target audience for Cosmo, I am under the impression that women, especially young women, take the word of the great Cosmopolitan seriously. And apparently that advice is: do not communicate, do not take his wishes seriously, and if the guy's views aren't the same as yours then it is ok to dismiss them and assume he will come around to your way of thinking. That is just fucked up.
So in summary --- Cosmo is not informed advice. Cosmo is crap.

I have a deep-seeded hatred for Cosmo magazine. I strongly believe they feed into women's insecurities about their own bodies and self-worth with their articles.
if people [namely, women} take advice from a magazine, then they deserve what they get.
that's so ridiculous.
but my real concern here is:
how in gay hell did you happen to read this???
(i refrained on purpose to end my phrase with crap/shit/etc...)
no, you're not the target audience.
no, women shopuldn't pay attention to these things. but we all make our choices in life.
but to find validation in a magazine is to me a nonsense...
are people this desperate?
i'm afraid you're gonna say "yes" to that one.
:(~

As a women I am offended by the unrealistic crap that comes out of Cosmo and other like-minded mags. I refuse to buy them now and only ever check them out at the docs office, and each time I am disgusted after 5 mins and toss it back ont he table. I would hope that most women would read this and realise how ridiculous the supposed advice was, but unfortunately I know it is practically a bible for some.
And as you say "Unacceptable" is a joke. Women have battled for reproductive choice, why the hell can't a man have the same right. Surely he should be applauded for being upfront and not just saying what she wants to hear to get her into bed.
But it smellllllls gooood......
;)
After reading this, I'm tempted to cancel my subscription. Almost.
Cosmo target audience = 13 year olds... dont buy them, load of tat..I stick to the gossipy trash mags at the nail salon to make sure I'm up to date with Brangelina and co!!
what RustyHoe said.
Oh, I cannot deal with Cosmo. I will read virtually anything, but Cosmo makes me itch and break out in hives.
LOL! Where do they come up with these things? Very funny and bad advice- the poor woman will never meet anyone...
You read Cosmo? Do you want kids? Maybe these things should be talked about before we get married ... ?
Cosmo is one sharp rag that knows women like they know... oh. Yeah. Wrong title.
LOL
Semi-random answers and comments: yes apparently some women are that desperate for validation, no I don't subscribe to Cosmo I just surf the internet a lot, no I don't want kids (my fiance asked that one, by the way), and yes it is totally unrealistic crap, that unfortunately people read and some likely believe...
Well, that explains a lot. No wonder I was so screwed up when it came to relationships. I devoured this magazine cover-to-cover when I was in my 20s & 30s. Crap -- why didn't I know you back then?
I don't read Cosmo but this advice just adds to the stereotype that women think they can change men. Just ignore the fact that he told you up front he doesn't want kids. I'm sure you can talk him into it later. Whatever.
Cosmo is total crap. What's worse is that it's completely sexist.
