Scissor Sisters' Not So Subtle New Album Cover...

The new album (are they still called albums?) from American pop glam rock disco group Scissor Sisters, Night Work, comes out tomorrow. The cover is above... hmm, subtle huh? What'cha think they are singing about on this one?

Night Work is the third album from the group; I loved the first, with songs like Filthy Gorgeous and Comfortably Numb, and then was semi-bored by the second. Then I saw a concert video which was fantastic and sort of revived my interest. What will they do next?

Although the group is not that huge in the USA, they are big here in Canada, in the UK, Australia. They have an out gay lead singer, have worked with Elton John and Kylie Minogue (see 'out gay singer'), tend to be political and sexual, and have been banned by Walmart for their coarse language.

According to lots of online stuff, this new album was pretty much written and recorded, then tossed out and redone from scratch because the band wasn't happy with it.

I for one am curious to check out Night Work.

Oh, and if you are wondering where their name came from because you aren't familiar with the term Scissor Sisters, google it like I did...

I don't know where the name comes from. I'll have to Google it as you suggest! Happy Monday!

If it's been banned by Walmart, that's a ringing endorsement in my book.

A music journalist writes:
On a purely musical level this album is five degrees worse than shit. Europop Turned Bad finally becomes a self-fulfilling musical prophecy of doom. Over-pitched vocals accompany the absence of lyrical content as they meander out to the open graveside and await their final burial. It's hard to believe that the band that worked so damned hard last year are responsible for this absence of musical ability.

I had a preview of this album a couple of months ago and sent it back with a post-it on the cover, on which I wrote one word. Unlistenable.

Since music is very subjective I will have to check out this group. If they are 'dance-able' then I'll like them. Now to google them......

In other news, I love reading your stuff and I'm letting everyone know it in my most recent post. Check it out and pick up something I've left for you (and for Alfred too of course)

I just saw their appearance this past weekend with Kylie Minogue at some music festival, thought it was fun and energetic, and that the song, which was off Night Work, was not memorable. This is illustrated I guess by the fact that I don't remember what the damn song was called...

Brennig - scary that was called unlistenable, I am still curious and yet cautious.

Saucy B - woo hoo, will check it out! Thanks merci!

Wow... there are some pretty conflicting views about this band. I might have to pop over to You Tube to see if there are any sneaky previews.

Jason, as himself said...

I did not know Scissor Sisters had a new one coming out, either! They're a lot of fun.

Thanks for stopping by The Jason Show! I like what I've seen of your blog so far, and I will be back!

I have just heard the first single, Fire with Fire, and think it is ok; need to hear it again.

The new Entertainment Weekly gives the album a fantastic review; music is so intimate and personal for each of us, is interesting to hear everyone's opinions!
