Is manliness making a comeback?

On what is apparently a slow news day, http://www.cnn.com/ is running this poll: Is manliness making a comeback?

I voted yes... I mean hell, I didn't know manliness was gone, but if it is, sure, damn well bring that suckah back!

As of this writing --- and the day isn't over yet --- the "no" votes have 54% of the vote. Whaaat?

So what are our stereotypes here?

If manliness is beer-swilling, truck driving, NRA-loving, gold-chain wearing, sexist homophobic 70s dude, that is not manliness to me, and sure we don't want that crap back.

If manliness is confidence and courteousness and other good stuff -- and hot, don't forget hot -- then where the hell did it go?

According to dictionary.com, manliness involves such qualities as strength, decisiveness, bravery, and determination. So where'd it go? Well not Ottawa or Washington, other than that I see it all over the place...

Does Manliness count as John Wayne, Robert Redford, or Rock Hudson??? I think there are many Manly Men.. Adrain Paul is one example. You do not have to be "Let's go kill to be manly" I also agree with you .. I think metro-sexual needs allot of improvement.
I think we are more looking at role models that makes us feel abit of a Man, not like a whimp. Todays movie Man needs to get on board.

PS..The dictionary states about manliness. Does that Make martha Stewart a Man then?? I do not thin that would be a good thing.

Oh yeh. For definite, bring manliness back. And if you find one, can you send him round to my house - my car needs servicing!

I think manliness should make a comeback since all we see lately are cowards who take other people's money and pretend it's their own. Manliness means strength and courage and standing up for what you believe in, and making your OWN way in the world without trampling on those less fortunate. Let's bring all that back and send these other jerks who are giving men a bad name out to an island. They deserve each other!

I totally agree manliness is strength and courage and standing up for what you believe in...

But Eddie Vedder? really? Dunno about that one...

Brahm, Eddie Vedder is smokin' hot. Maybe it's a girl thing?

The perfect example of a manly man would be John Corbet's character in Sex and the City. Strong, can work wonders with his hands (yes I mean that in a dirty way too), open minded and sensitive but not in a crying on your shoulder every minute (hey, I hae a kid for that shit) and FUCKING HOT.

Please do bring it back. Please, please, please!!!
And I totally agree. Eddie is quite smokin', used to be in love with him ten years ago!

Baby, manliness never went away. It does not involve rednecks however. That Spartacus guy is so hot! So was the series! Loved it but I'm getting sidetracked. One of the "manliest" men I've ever known is my gay doctor. He's also chief of staff at a major SF medical center. Ken is charming, sweet, gentle, intelligent and caring, as well as being a lot more fun than the average bear! That's what make a man "manly".

Manliness is Jake Gyllenhaal in Prince of Persia. Woof! Bring it on!
